The Saddest Girl in the World
January 20th, 2008It’s not me! It is, however, the tentative title of the one woman show I am currently writing, and will perform this summer at various Fringe Festivals throughout Canada. I have always wanted to write and perform a one woman show; indeed, my acting heroine in university was Jessica Griffiths, a professional solo show writer and performer. I’ve written two solo shows which were performed last year by the bewitching Kirsty Provan and the effervescent Lori Kokotailo. Now, it’s my turn; my time to claim the bare stage. I’m extremely excited, and, naturally, a little nervous.
Currently, I’m in the thick of the writing process. I have a most lovely, intelligent dramaturg, Kathy Parsons, who encourages a luxurious process. I don’t do any of my own editing. I write, write, write and let Kathy deal with the mess. It’s super-deliciously wonderful!! Kathy is also a playwright, whose ideas inspired the screenplay and subsequent film, THE HITCH-HIKER.
I also have a wonderful director; Dirk Van Stralen. He directed his partner, Julia Mackey, in JAKE’S GIFT, a brilliant and touching one woman show that West Coasters have raved about. It’s currently at the Wildside Festival at the Centaur Theatre in Montreal. Dirk is also a very talented actor. He’ll be seen this upoming April in an intensely complicated role in THE WOODSMAN at Pacific Theatre.
That’s all for now. I’ll keep you updated on TSGW.
